Solutions for Healthy Ecosystems
and a Reduced-Carbon Climate

Solutions that help mitigate climate change.

As a company committed to long-term sustainability, our working forests have an essential role to play in mitigating climate change. We have dedicated over 700,000 acres of our timberlands to innovative forest carbon offset projects. Today, Green Diamond is one of the largest owner-operators of Improved Forest Management (IFM) projects, with projects across Alabama, California, Mississippi, Montana and Oregon. We are also expanding our forest carbon project portfolio to include afforestation, reforestation and revegetation (ARR) projects.

Project Benefits

Natural climate solutions can play an essential role in the transition to a net-zero economy. Research published in Nature found that global forest lands can contribute up to a third of the greenhouse gas mitigation needed to meet international climate targets. Our certified forest carbon credits, alongside emissions reductions, can help organizations meet their climate commitments while simultaneously contributing to environmental and social co-benefits.

Project Types

Our forest carbon projects employ sustainable forestry techniques that go beyond business as usual and are designed to increase carbon storage and sequestration over time. This is accomplished through two key activities:

  • Improved Forest Management (IFM) maintains or increases forest resilience and carbon stocks through activities such as managing fire, pest and invasive species risks or extending harvest rotations.
  • Afforestation, Reforestation and Revegetation (ARR) establishes forest on land not previously forested or not forested within the previous 50 years and restores tree cover on lands that are not at optimal stocking levels.

Project Profiles

We have high-quality, certified forest carbon projects covering more than 700,000 acres in five states. An additional 130,000 acres are undergoing feasibility studies.

To achieve certification, each project must adhere to established methodologies and guidelines to ensure environmental integrity and scientific rigor. This includes a multistep project development process to ensure forest management actions result in additionality, permanence, proper monitoring, reporting and third-party verification.
